Blue prosecco proves a big hit with sparkling wine fans...here's where you can buy a bottle

BLUE prosecco has proved to be a big hit with sparkling wine drinkers all over the world - with fans completely won over.

The eye-catching new beverage initially saw criticism from snobs in Italy, but comments left online shows it's gone down well.

One person wrote: "Great, has a taste of a little grapefruit to me. Beautiful bottle and colour.

"Love the fizz. Yes I'd buy again. Makes a great gift."

Another said: "I love this! Not much more to say!

"Don't think about it, just buy some! Never mind that it tastes so delicious, it's beautiful to look at in your glass."

One more happy fan said: "Great experience. A unique taste that is very refreshing. A favourite with many members of our family."

The drink, dubbed the "world's first and most loved blue wine", is a mix of curacao, peach and Prosecco, and is already being sold in China and America.

UK customers can get their hands on a bottle too, but only online - for a cost of £16.92, without shipping (which is calculated at checkout).

The wine is described as "a velvety and seductive sparkling blue wine that is deliciously fruity and presented in distinctive packaging."

On the website the wine has so far received five star reviews, with people calling it "refreshing" and "flavoursome".

Fratelli Saraceni, the Italian makers of the blue wine, which is called Blumond, are looking to bring it to shops in Europe, with plans to launch in Sicily next month.

But according to Mail Online, critics say the seven per cent alcohol content falls below the 10 per cent required by Italian law for it to be called "wine".

As a result, the drink should be labelled an "aperitif" or a "long drink", wine snobs have said.

Wladimiro Gobbo, a member of Italy’s Sommelier Association told the Mail that Blumond is "simply an insult to our wine tradition".

"It’s embarrassing. These are not wines but coloured liquids, dumb-downed hybrids with a watered-down percentage of alcohol", he said.

While the blue liquid might not be popular in Italy, it has been successful in countries like China.

And Fratelli Saraceni are said to be in talks to begin selling the wine for weddings in the UK, and have approached luxury department store Harrods.
