The Pensacola Police chief Eric Randall has said previously said that he wants to work towards reducing gun violence in the city.

"Just hearing gunshots, the psychological impact that it has, it puts fear in people," Randall said according to a Pensacola News Journal report.

"People don't feel safe. People shouldn't have to hear gunshots when they're driving down the streets or having a family get-together or are out shopping or traversing the city or just trying to have a good time."

Randall emphasised that reducing gun violence would remain one of his top priorities.

"Many times when people hear gunshots, they might not report it to the police, but they should.

"I'm taking a close look at staffing to make sure that our staffing matches the needs of the community and organization, making sure that we have the right amount of staffing in patrol verses specialty units to make sure that we can handle the call volume load and make sure that we provide the most effective and efficient service to the citizens of Pensacola."
