Lascelles Chin is a Jamaican-born entrepreneur who ventured into business as early as 1956. By 1958 Mr. Chin had begun to import black pepper from Asia, and peas from Portugal and the United States. His enterprise was so successful it led to him becoming the island’s largest trader of black pepper.
He was awarded the nation’s 4th highest civilian honour, the Order of Jamaica, in 2001. He was also awarded two honourary degrees- Doctor of Laws and Doctor of Humane Letters- from the University of Technology, Jamaica, and Northern Caribbean University, respectively.
