Cats and dogs are typically considered rivals, but a popular TikTok account is showing how a Rottweiler and a big cat became the best of friends.

Luna the panther was born in a Siberian zoo, but was rejected by her mother as a cub.

She was adopted by a Russian woman called Victoria, who had previous experience with big cats, and raised alongside Victoria's dog Venza. The two are now firm friends.

Victoria set up a TikTok account, @Luna_the_pantera, to document the big cat's domestic life. It has more than 5.5 million followers and has attracted over 61.8 million likes.

One video, shared on October 12 and watched more than 600,000 times, shows Luna and Venza's close relationship.

It begins with the pair drinking from the same water bucket, then cuts to the panther rearranging a blanket for the duo to sit on together.

Next Luna licks the fur on Venza's back, lovingly cleaning her older brother.

The footage, which can be watched here, was captioned: "My best friend [heart emoji] #frienda #animalfriends #cute #cutecat."

The clip has also racked up nearly 75,000 likes and almost 1,000 comments.

One TikToker, Badbagalut wrote: "This is soooooo cute! Many greetings from Germany! Wonderful relationship."

Another user, Bwilson212, posted: "I would love to have a panther as a pet I have a bunch of exotic animals right now would like to add it to my collection."

Beverlycockrum typed: "Hi sweet Luna! Love seeing you from Texas! So beautiful! Wish I was there loving on you."

Karin Grand500 stated: "Actually, UNBELIEVEABLE, my heart is full of love watching this."

Torsten Krebs said simply: "They are adorable together."

Not everyone thought the video was lovely, however, including 110 Shades who commented: "How is this allowed??? There's no sanctity for wildlife anymore."

Ash_diddy_ agreed, writing: "Put it back in the wild."

In Russia, it was legal to keep exotic pets until an animal-protection law came into force in January 2020.

The legislation covers 33 species, including panthers, "that may be dangerous to their owners, as well as animals whose natural habitat differs significantly from the domestic conditions in which they are kept, which may adversely affect their health or cause death."

However, if the owner bought the animal before January 2020, they are allowed to keep it.

Many countries have outlawed keeping big cats as pets. In the U.S., 21 states have banned all exotic pets, including panthers and other big cats, according to the group Big Cat Rescue.

Other states, including Pennsylvania, Texas and Montana, allow big cat ownership if the person obtains a permit. Four states—Nevada, Wisconsin, North Carolina, Alabama, and South Carolina—have no laws on keeping dangerous wild animals as pets, Big Cat Rescue said.
